My son, Graham was driving. He had taken us deep into Big Bend ,Texas. He had picked the car music also. What I heard tipped my reality. What is this? I asked. He replied..."Dark Country". Both the lyrics and instrumentals were part of my long association with folk music...but the lyric content was shocking. They were all singing about death. I came home and wrote eight songs for this album in a few days. Only one song was "extracted"., due to its ancient dirge overload. The remainder resonate with who I am... without Trying. This is a not-doing. The songs reflect the landscape of death, and even the Butterfly is not free of this impending reality.
